The short answer: earlier than you think. Here’s how each season stacks up.
One of the advantages of hardscaping in Central Ohio is that it can be built through most of the year — unlike planting, it doesn’t depend on a growing season. That said, each season has trade-offs worth knowing before you schedule.
Spring
Spring is the most popular time to build, which is exactly why it books up fastest. If you want your patio ready for early-summer use, the calls that come in during the winter are the ones that get the spring slots. Wet spring ground can occasionally delay excavation, but a good crew plans around it.
Summer
Summer offers long, dry working days and predictable conditions — ideal for larger, multi-phase projects. The trade-off is that it’s peak season, so lead times are longer. Book several weeks ahead.
Fall
Fall is quietly one of the best times to build. The ground is dry, temperatures are comfortable for crews and materials, and schedules start to open up after the summer rush. A patio finished in the fall is ready to enjoy the moment next spring arrives.
Winter
Hardscape work can continue into winter as long as the ground isn’t frozen solid, and it’s often the easiest time to get on the schedule. Concrete work is more weather-sensitive in the cold, but paver and wall installations are frequently doable. Winter is also the smartest time to plan and design so you’re first in line come spring.
The best time to call is one to two seasons before you want to be using the space.
The real answer: plan ahead
Whatever season you’re targeting, the projects that go smoothest are the ones planned early. Reach out before the season you want, and we’ll design the space, provide a written quote, and reserve a realistic build window. Consultations are free year-round.
